SESSION 1 - Understanding Neurodivergence: Conditions, Traits & Lenses:

This session provides a clear, clinically grounded overview of major neurodivergent conditions with attention to how Autism, ADHD, OCD, Dyslexia, PDA, dyspraxia, and sensory processing differences present in adults as well as kids. The focus is on accurate terminology, modern frameworks, and avoiding pathologizing language. The session also contrasts neurodevelopmental origins with trauma-based presentations to reduce misdiagnosis.

SESSION 2 - Trauma, Brain-Based Adaptations & Overlap With Neurodivergence:

This session explores how trauma shapes neurobiology, behavior, communication, and emotional regulation. Clinicians learn how trauma responses can appear similar to neurodevelopmental traits and how to use a differential approach without pathologizing clients. The session emphasizes nervous system science that counselors can use practically.

Day 2 (04/02/2026):

SESSION 3 - Ethics in Neurodivergent & Trauma-Informed Counseling:

This session delivers NBCC- and Virginia-aligned ethics content focused specifically on neurodivergent adults and trauma-exposed clients. Topics include power dynamics, autonomy, informed consent, communication differences, documentation pitfalls, and avoiding harm through misdiagnosis.

SESSION 4 - Applying Trauma-Informed Modalities with Neurodivergent Clients:

This session integrates everything learned so far and focuses on practical skills. Clinicians learn how to adapt existing CBT, DBT, mindfulness, somatic, and person-centered interventions to better serve neurodivergent clients, without needing an entirely new therapeutic model.
